PRESS RELEASE "DOOMSCROLLER" at Ogden Contemporary Arts

DOOMSCROLLER – Aimee Odum

February 7 – April 13, 2025

Ogden Contemporary Arts is excited to present DOOMSCROLLER, a ceramic exhibit by Salt Lake City-based artist Aimee Odum. Curated by Kasey Lou Lindley.

Influenced by the Information Age, where widespread use of the internet has become a defining characteristic of human civilization, DOOMSCROLLER examines humanity’s evolving relationship with technology. Through ceramic and mixed media sculptures, Odum explores the immersive, tactile act of scrolling—from the lighthearted distraction of memes to the consuming allure of distressing news cycles. Employing both ancient ceramic techniques and artificial intelligence tools such as Gemini and WOMBO Dream, her work investigates how technological advances shape our existence and behavior.

Odum’s surreal, biomorphic sculptures feature gritty textures and lustrous finishes, evoking fictional realms where the natural and digital worlds converge. These forms, with their organic contours, appendages, and portals, symbolize interconnected systems and question the boundaries between the physical and virtual.

Blending traditional craftsmanship with AI-generated collaborations, Odum’s work humorously and critically reflects on technology’s imperfections and allure. DOOMSCROLLER invites viewers to consider whether our constant engagement with data streams serves as a survival strategy or a path to self-destruction.

Major funding for this exhibit is provided by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, The Utah Division of Arts & Museums, George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation, Ogden Arts, Rocky Mountain Power, and the Utah Office of Tourism.
